On May 26th, the women's basketball team of Huaqiao University (HQU) won the third place in the 27th Chinese University Basketball League 2 (CUBAL 2) held at Shandong Agricultural University after seven days of intense competition. With an outstanding record of six wins and one loss, HQU has set a new best record in the team's history.
In the group stage, HQU displayed formidable strength. They defeated Hainan Medical University with a score of 57-28, overwhelmed Tianjin Polytechnic University with a dominant 61-18 victory, and defeated Beifang University of Nationalities with a score of 51-28. With three consecutive wins, they advanced to the knockout stage.
In the 1/8-finals, HQU faced the defending champion Hebei University of Engineering without any fear. They focused on defense and played calmly, ultimately securing a victory with a score of 48-41 to advance to the next round. In the quarterfinals against Southwest University, the runner-up of the previous season, HQU promptly adjusted their strategy, took control of the game’s tempo, and emerged victorious with a final score of 43-35, thus making it into the top four.
In the semifinals, facing the long-standing strong team Guangdong Ocean University, HQU gave their all but ultimately suffered a narrow defeat, missing out on a place in the final. However, in the subsequent third-place playoff, the team quickly regrouped and delivered a strong performance, defeating Shenyang University of Technology by a large margin to clinch the third place nationwide.
HQU women’s basketball team is composed of non-sports majors from Business School, School of Economics and Finance, College of Humanities, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Information Science and Engineering, College of Tourism, School of Political Science and Public Administration, and College of Fine Arts.
